DAY 2

Palermo City Tour

Palermo is the capital of Sicily and the administrative and political center of the island.

Over the centuries it has seen the passage of many cultures: the signs of these peoples are still present today.

One of the most suggestive and significant itineraries is the Arab-Norman one in the historic center.

For over two centuries Arab populations dominated the city: with the arrival of the Normans the two cultures met, giving life to a unique style of which Palermo is the main example.

On this walk in the lively historic center of Palermo we will admire monuments of extraordinary beauty, expressions of the happy coexistence of different cultures that in the twelfth century generated an original architectural style in which Byzantine, Islamic and Norman elements are admirably fused.

You will be amazed by the splendid golden mosaics of the Martorana church and the Palatine Chapel, the Norman Palace, the picturesque red domes of the church of San Cataldo and the sumptuous decoration of the Cathedral with its spiers, towers and domes whose construction began in 1185, it has never stopped changing over time!

You reach a rather unusual attraction: the Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo. These catacombs are famous for hosting over 8,000 mummies; definitely a destination not for the faint of heart!

We will also see a typical market of the city like Ballarò and experience the liveliness of these inhabitants and we will certainly taste some of the Palermo specialties accompanied by a good Sicilian wine.

DAY 3

Ficuzza - Corleone

Today we continue south through breathtaking landscapes and live the experience of an ancient Sicily full of history.

We begin by visiting the spectacular Cathedral of Monreale, a marvel of architecture, well known for its numerous mosaics and the magnificent cloister. One of the most fascinating and interesting places of your trip to Sicily.

Continue until you reach the imposing royal Hunting Lodge of the Borbone family immersed in the woods. More then a lodge Ficuzza it seems a real royal Palace.

Shortly after you reach the city of Corleone. Known for being linked to the mafia, Corleone now presents itself with a different face and open to tourists, surprising you with its ancient historic center and giving an authentic Sicily.

Here you can take a short lunch break at a typical local trattoria.

Shortly after Corleone we will admire a natural spectacle: the Waterfalls of the Two Rocks. It is not easy to see waterfalls in Sicily and these are the highest on the island.

We will arrive in the reserve of Monte Genuardo where suddenly we will reach a place that is nothing short of enchanting: the Abbey of Santa Maria del Bosco.

The Abbey of Santa Maria del Bosco, obtained from an ancient Benedictine abbey of 1300, in a setting where the charm of the Middle Ages is combined with classical Sicilian art.

We will rest with a wine tasting at one of the most renowned wineries in Sicily.

Agrigento & Scala dei turchi

Sicily is famous for its mix of artistic and architectural, but also landscape beauties!

Leaving the Abbey we will head towards the southern coast and make a stop in Eraclea Minoa.

A magical place to visit the archaeological area and its beautiful Greek theater overlooking the sea.

And then the time comes to visit a place of extreme natural beauty, the Scala dei Turchi. This white cliff is located in the sea, and the rock is composed of soft limestone and dense white marl.

Nature is a great artist: over time, with the help of the ocean and the salty breeze, this material becomes soft and curved, creating terraces and smoothing every corner. You just have to be careful not to slip, especially on wet rocks. Along the beach near La Scala it is possible to immerse yourself in the crystalline sea, to enjoy a few moments of healthy relaxation.

Right next to the Scala dei Turchi we will visit the salt mine or the Salt Cathedral. A mine still active but inside it offers a show of quarries with unique rock salt formations.

We will drive to the city of Agrigento to visit its iconic Valley of the Temples.

The guide will allow us to discover and learn about the history of this magnificent archaeological park, which is made up of eleven temples (and numerous other ruins), built between 510 and 430 BC.

Since 1997 the Valley of the Temples has been a Unesco World Heritage Site and is one of the main attractions of the island. The archaeological and landscape park is one of the largest archaeological sites in the Mediterranean.

DAY 6

Villa Romana del Casale

The Villa Romana del Casale is the biggest attraction in central Sicily for good reason: the site, located in a valley 5 km southwest of the city of Piazza Armerina, has the best existing mosaics of the Roman world and for that reason it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

The Villa is sumptuous: four groups of interconnected buildings, scattered on the hiiside and decorated with over 3,500 square meters of surprisingly wll-preserved multicolored mosaics, which suggest its function as a luxury palace of imperial significance.

We will admire the splendid floors through the depictions of ports, cities, animals and forests that represent the continents and places where the Roman Empire extended.

A fascinating room is that of the mosaic of the athletes girls who line up before the race and which made the villa famous as it is here that we find the first representation in the world of a woman in a bikini.

After the visit of the villa we will stop for a light lunch break in a typical trattoria in the fascinating Piazza Armerina.

In the afternoon it will be a continuous change of landscape until you enter the Madonie Natural Park with its wide valleys and imposing mountains, until you reach Gangi, called the most beautiful village in Italy in 2015.

DAY 7

The towns of the Madonie

Today we will visit the historic villages to discover an authentic Sicily in the Madonie Park, a vast territory recognized by UNESCO as Geopark Madonie which includes botanical rarities, endemics and trees recognized as monuments of nature.

Let's start with the visit of Gangi. This medieval village seems to have transformed the rock of the mountain into a artwork.

In fact, a scene of stone sculptures opens: a large group of houses facing each other, gilded external walls decorated with flowers, wrought iron balconies and rich portals.

On these streets are scattered churches, noble palaces and art treasures, which climb and intertwine in the magnificent natural environment.

For this purpose, Gangi was proclaimed in 2015 the "Most beautiful village in Italy", a recognition that it shares with other Sicilian towns such as Petralia Soprana and Geraci Siculo that you will visit on this tour.

Immersed in the landscape of these fantastic mountains we reach Petralia Soprana. An ancient village that preserves ancient rites and traditions. The historic center still intact and with a medieval conformation, characterized by the precious architecture of the houses.

We will visit an ancient and typical farm to taste a mountain lunch with local products.

A unique place in these mountains is the museum of the salt mine with its spectacular caves and sculptor and natural rock formations where you will discover the geological history of Sicily enriched by contemporary artistic testimonies.

Finally, the visit of Geraci Siculo will allow us to still admire the wide valleys and woods of the Madonie and where we will stop for a typical Sicilian dinner ..... with old typical rediscovered flavors.

cefal

DAY 7

Cefalù

We will leave Gangi to head towards the coast and reach Cefalù.

Cefalù is famous for being a typical and ancient fishing village full of beauties and impressive monuments such as the magnificent Arab-Norman Cathedral and the medieval Arab washhouse.

For those who love shopping, Cefalù is a treasure of curious shops that meet the needs of anyone.

After all the sightseeing and shopping, you can choose to enjoy some relaxation by the sea and taste some seafood specialties before continuing to the airport.

Transfer to the airport and end of the services and the tour.

See you in Sicily
