DAY 1

Catania & Siracusa

We will begin our Sicilian holiday with a guided tour of Catania, perhaps the most eclectic and lively city in Sicily.

The baroque style of its historic center, together with the seven towns of the Val di Noto, was declared a World Heritage by UNESCO in 2002.

Starting from Piazza Duomo in the historic center, we will admire the particular architecture of the square with its baroque buildings and the famous Elefant Fountain, symbol of the city.

Do not miss a visit to the Pescheria, the central fish market and one of the largest fish markets in Italy, to appreciate the bright colors and unique smells, accompanied by uninterrupted shouts of fishermen who sell fresh products.

We will taste a typical Sicilian Arancino together and then we will head south towards Syracuse, a city with a thousand-year history, with its monuments of the Greek era and Sicilian Baroque.

The particularity of Syracuse is that its historic center is located on an island, Ortigia.

Small and easy to explore by crossing its narrow streets lined with charming churches, Ortigia is full of palaces and squares that offer a relaxing atmosphere of beauty.

DAY 2

Syracuse & Pantalica

To discover ancient Syracuse we must absolutely see its archaeological park, known for its spectacular ruins, but above all the Greek theater which dates back to at least the fifth century BC. and the Roman Amphitheater, built in the third century AD, which with its 140 meters in length is one of the most impressive that can be found.

We will move to the Necropolis od Pantalica is a larce and fascinating naturalistic area between Catania and Syracuse. In 2005 the site was declared a World Heritage by UNESCO.

Pantalica also represents a precious archaeological area which, with over 5,000 rock tombs is one of the most impressice becropolises in Europe.

The territory is located on a plateau and is surrounded by canyons formed over the centuries due to the passage of two rivers, the Anapo and the Calcinara.

A unique mix of nature and archeology, during which you can see the prehistoric necropolis, the Byzantine village, the calcinara river canyon.

A break by the river will give you the opportunity to even take a dip in the beautiful waters.

We will finish our day with a tasting at an olive oil company to learn more about the precious olive oil of the Iblei Mountains.

DAY 3

Noto & Marzamemi

To understand the sense of beauty of Sicilian Baroque, a Unesco World Heritage Site, you must visit Noto, the Baroque capital of Sicily.

The Baroque style of Noto defines the whole city: Baroque elements are interconnected to create what is called a "perfect Baroque city"

A walk on foot is the best way to discover the eighteenth-century beauties admiring the imposing churches and the wonderful facades and balconies of the noble palaces.

We will visit the Cathedral, the famous Via Nicolaci and its Palaces, the Palazzo Ducezio, the city Theater, the Church of St. Chiara and San Carlo and the prestigious Palazzo Di Lorezzo del Castelluccio.

A relaxing and restoring moment is undoubtedly the visit of Marzamemi.

A typical fishing village where you can still breathe the air of an ancient and traditional Sicily. The old town center is located on a small cape and organized around the picturesque Piazza Regina Margherita. On the south side is the small fishing port with the charming old trap. Narrow streets lead off the main square, offering glimpses of the turquoise sea.

We will try the tasty fish products preserves that this town offers and finally a wine tasting at one of the most renowed wineries in the area.

DAY 4

Ragusa & Modica

We continue towards the city of Ragusa, considered one of the most picturesque cities in Sicily and always World Heritage together with Modica and Scicli.

Ragusa has become particularly famous in recent years as one of the main filming locations for Inspector Montalbano's detective film.

The city is divided into two parts but the small Ragusa Ibla really attracts visitors. The historic center is compact, making it easy to visit on foot in a few hours.

The tour allows you to admire the splendid and imposing churches and the many noble palaces. Each building here is noy only the result of an impulsive art but is also the result of a typically Sicilian joie de vivre.

Ragusa is a city that is all downhill. The upper part is connected to the lower part by a winding road and by the typical stairs that offer glimpses to be photographed.

Lost in the countryside and near Ragusa is the fascinating Donnafugata castle.

The castle with white facades and the Venetian Gothic loggia gives people a warm and pleasant atmosphere. Combining architectural style and landscape style, this is a good example of the eclecticism of that era.

We will move to Modica. A wounderful city that in its glorious past was above all a feudal entity, the County of Modica, from the thirteenth to the nineteenth century.

Today it still represents one of the most elegant cities in Sicily and walking through its streets, it is possible to admire surprising panoramic views of the city and imposing historic buildings such as the two Cathedrals of the city: the Cathedral of St. George and that of St. Peter.

Modica is famous all over the world for its chocolate.

A tour of the city is always accompanied by a chocolate tasting in one of the many bars present, often with demonstations that end with the pleasure of taking home some bars as a souvenir of the travel.

DAY 5

Agrigento & Scala dei turchi

Returning to the Greek era of Sicily, we will reach the city of Agrigento to visit its iconic Valley of the Temples. The guide will allow us to discover and learn about the history of this magnificent archaeological park, which is made up of eight temples (and various other ruins), built between 510 and 430 BC.

Sicily is famous for its mix of artistic and architectural, but also landscape beauties!

Since 1997 the Valley of the Temples has been a Unesco World Heritage Site and is one of the main attractions of the island. The archaeological and landscape park is one of the largest archaeological site in the Mediterranean.

Sicily is famous for its mix of artistic and architectural, but also landscape beauties!

And then the time comes to visit a place of extreme natural beauty, the Scala dei Turchi. The rock is composed of soft limestone and dense white marl.

Nature is a great artist: over time, with the help of the ocean and the salty breeze, this material becomes soft and curved, creating terraces and smoothing every corner. Just be careful not to slip, especially on wet rocks.

Along the beach near La Scala it is possible to immerse yourself in the crystalline seato enjoy a few moments of healthy relax.

DAY 6

Villa Romana del Casale

The Villa Romana del Casale is the biggest attraction in central Sicily for good reason: the site, located in a valley 5 km southwest of the city of Piazza Armerina, has the best existing mosaics of the Roman world and for that reason it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

The Villa is sumptuous: four groups of interconnected buildings, scattered on the hiiside and decorated with over 3,500 square meters of surprisingly wll-preserved multicolored mosaics, which suggest its function as a luxury palace of imperial significance.

We will admire the splendid floors through the depictions of ports, cities, animals and forests that represent the continents and places where the Roman Empire extended.

A fascinating room is that of the mosaic of the athletes who line up before the race and which made the villa famous as it is here that we find the first representation in the world of a woman in a bikini.

After the visit of the villa we will stop for a light lunch break in a typical trattoria in the fascinating Piazza Armerina.

In the afternoon we will drive to Caltagirone, a baroque city revowed throughout Sicily for its ceramics.

The production of ceramics dates back to over 1,000 years ago, thanks to the high quality clay of the area.

Time has given a high level of craftsmanship creativity, which still today involves an important income factore.

Wherever you go in Caltagirone, among the streets full of baroque palaces and churches, you are invaded by tradional ceramics.

A fundamental stop is the Staircase of Santa Maria del Monte, the epic city staircase decorated in ceramic majolica.

We will taste a good locally produced Nero d'Avola and continue to Catania.

DAY 7

Etna & Taormina

With its 3,340 meters, Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Etna never ceases to amaze in a continuous succession of contrasts. Orride walls of black lava that fit between the lush vineyards and citrus groves.

The lava has completely erased and modified entire landscapes which, once cooled, become very fertile ground, a treasure for farmers.

Discovering these fantastic landscapes we will reach the Silvestri craters at an altitude of 2,000 meters , two extinguished mouths whose long eruption of 173 days dates back to 1892. It is at the same time fascinating and disturbing to walk among the craters admiring the splendid panorama overlooking the Calabrian coasts and the Sicilian hinterland.

We will visit a company that produces honey, one of the main products of Etna together with wine, mushrooms and chestnuts. You will have the opportunity to buy and taste some of the typical products.

You cannot visit Etna without tasting its good wine with fragrant and mineral tones. We will then visit one of the most famous Etna wineries, for a tasting of the typical wines of the volcano: Nerello Mascalese and Catarratto, accompanied by genuine culinary specialities.

Taormina, defined as the pearl of the Ionian coast, is one of the most characteristic and famous cities in Sicily, thanks to its geographical position on the sea dotted with wonderful landscapes and its great historical and cultural heritage. In fact, it is on the list to obtain recognition from Unesco.

A walking tour through the medieval squares and alleys, to discover the monuments and the history of the town. From the Greeks to the Romans to the Normans: Taormina has always been a strategic place for the various peoples who governed and animated it.

We will visit the Ancient Theater of Taormina. Even if today it looks like a Roman theater, in reality its construction dates back to the Greek era, between the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC.

You will also discover how the city became famous as an unmissable stop on the Grand Tour.

You will be amazed by the medieval Cathedral and the charming streets full of traditions that culminate in the world-famous panoramic squares.
